Using a non supported Timemachine volume

Always forget this bit:

defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1

Speficially needed if you are using a Linux box, shared by Apple Talk.

From here in this instance, although there are loads of howtos.
