Linux on Compaq EVO T20

I’ve recently spent some time trying to get linux running out of the embedded firmware on a Compaq Evo T20. I’ve succeeded with a lot of help from this page. I’ll be adding some notes on how I did it and how I used ThinStation to get the NX client in the firmware.

Sorry I’ve not got around to compiling them yet, I’ll see if I can get something together over the weekend. I have some shell scripts which build an image, they are poorly commented but if you are familiar with thinstation and bash they would give you hints!

    Hi!

Today i bought a t20 and i am also interested in getting it running with thinstation for XDMCP access to a linux server
Open for any hint that could help me to get it run :-)
if your t20 has the same config (48/96) we also can share the patched firmware files as i understood from the docs?

    Hi Folks,

it seems that device is getting popular in the last few weeks. ;-)

As I have two of those, I also would be interested i your notes.

Currently we, a German Linux User Group, are working to get the pinguin onto the T20 by following a few hints out of the net. Besides a thin client there is also the attempt to install a small linux distribution (DSL?) straight onto the box.

A German wiki can be found at our homepage www[dot]pug[dot]org/index.php/Thin_Client_evo_T20

    Hi,

any chance of an update of the Wiki to English please? Even running it through an online translator is not clear enough for a linux newbie like me to figure out :(

The http://www.kazak.ws/evo/ page isn’t available any more, not even using the wayback internet archive.

I’ll try and write up my notes for this. I have a script too (somewhere) which builds the firmware.

Mine won’t even start… the LED on the power button lights up, but that’s it. No screen, no sound, no nothing. Please help!

  11. Klaus says:

    Hi threecheersfornick,

    this might help:

Hold the ‘G’ key on your USB-Keyboard from before you power up until approx. max 2 min after the power up.

    Klaus
